Rack The Rebels - 1984 Sophomore YearDo you all remember this? This was history in the making. We competed throughout the year for the MARK COMPETITION. Whichever class won a particular Mark Event would earn Spirit points. Well, here we were little ole Sophomores & we ended up with the BEST HOMECOMING FLOAT Ever! Never before had the underclassmen beat out the Seniors for Best Homecoming float. But we did - with this float--RACK THE REBELS. We actually went on to win the whole year Mark Competition & thus earned ourselves a picnic. We were an awesome class full of spirit-full of fun! More pics to come down the road showing off our class spirit............I believe that is Mark Blake on the rack with Monica Zirkle, myself, Danae Palermo, Julie Cappel & 3 other disguised fellow classmen on the float. Who are they? Anyone remember? Thank You to Stewart Crockett's parents who allowed us to build the float at their house .

You know I support your blog, and I'm not trying to be contentious here--but I believe the class of 86 won the float competition when we were freshman. So you couldn't have been the first underclassmen to beat the seniors. I wasn't at SHS as a freshman, but I think that our upset victory was why our class mark incorporated chicken wire into the number 86.
Doesn't make your victory any less exciting, of course: just not the first!
Kris, you are right! The class of '86 did win "best float" their freshman year!
Ok Ok---I guess I stand corrected---Please accept my apologies. Boy, I was so proud of that. I guess only being in 8th grade we wouldn't have known about that. HOWEVER, if anyone from the CLASS of 87 knows otherwise--please let me know because even though my memory is not as good as it used to be I surely remember this being a big deal and could have sworn we were the first. :)
